On Wednesday 3rd April, some of our year 9 Gifted and Talented students attended a half-day law event held at Exeter University, Penryn Campus.
It was a great opportunity for students to learn about the rule of law, develop public speaking skills and learn how to structure a clear argument. They spent the session working alongside two practicing barristers, to learn about key aspects of criminal advocacy and hear what really happens in a courtroom.
Students were given a masterclass on opening and closing speeches, examination in chief and cross-examination and the opportunity to put these skills learnt into practice in a mock trial at the end of the workshop.
Each and every one of them did a fantastic job in the roles they took on, received very promising feedback on their performances and asked some brilliant questions to the barristers at the end.
