Truro Combined Schools Art Project
We had four keen dancers; Franceseca Lister, Milly Jones, Brooke Kemp and Rebecca Maynard go to Truro School for a dance workshop recently . The day involved the students working with students from other schools to create a dance based on music that had been composed at an earlier music workshop with composer Phil Innes. They were lucky enough to work with two choreographers for the day. They then went on to perform their dance at the opening of the Truro Combined Schools Art project. It was a fantastic way of opening the exhibition and the evening really showcased the creative talents of young people across the Truro area.
This is the thirteenth year of the project and it goes from strength to strength and is really well supported by schools and the local community. This year’s theme was Cornish abstract art and there were some really interesting and creative outcomes. It was an excellent venue to display all the work that had been produced not only by some of our Year 8 students but also work that had been produced in the workshops that have run throughout the year - Selected students have had the opportunity to do a painting workshop, a print workshop, a 3D installation workshop, a ceramics workshop, a music workshop and the dance workshop . The project is a great chance for local schools to work together but also for students to meet and work with students from other schools to develop skills in a range of art forms.
It was really great to see so many students and parents come along to the private view on the evening of the 9th March to see the work produced and look around the exhibition. The work stayed up until the 14th March and there were many comments on the quality of the work on display from members of the public. Well done to all the students involved.
