Dear Parents,
Re: NUT / ATL Industrial Action, 30th June 2011
As you will be aware, the NUT and ATL teaching unions are currently in dispute with the government regarding proposed amendments to conditions of service, including pensions arrangements. Members of both unions recently voted in favour of industrial action regarding this matter. Subsequently, members of both teaching unions at Richard Lander School have indicated their intended actions with regard to the above.
As a result of this process, the senior team, in consultation with the Chair of Governors, has decided that on 30th June 2011, the school will be closed to all students.
The decision to close is not taken lightly. With a significantly depleted teaching staff team, we are not in a position to deliver a curriculum without compromising our duties with regard to safety and welfare of students.
Parents are advised to make appropriate arrangements for their children for this day.
The school has endeavoured to inform parents of this decision as early as possible, enabling time to make appropriate provision. That said, it does regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Mulcahy
Headteacher
