Sports Day 2017

Added 2 years ago

With just 6.5 points between 1st (Godrevy) and 4th place (Towan) in the 2017 RLS  Inter Community Sports competition, there was everything to play for at Sports Day on Tuesday 20th June.

For once we couldn’t complain about rain with temperatures soaring to 27 degrees and a dedicated team of staff needed to distribute water and sun cream!
In the interests of keeping students cool, the Maths department also sold ice creams and raised over £200 for SKYD (Supporting Kernow’s Young Diabetics).

Sports Day saw a friendly competitive atmosphere along with noticeable  team spirit embodies in Year 11 student, Abu Gupta, who ran alongside many of the long distance runners to encourage them to finish their races in the uncomfortable heat.

Students who weren’t entered in events played friendly matches of volley ball and football or cheered on their friends from the side-lines

There were many individual triumphs on the day with 14 school records smashed including incoming Head Boy, Frank Holmes breaking 3 school records!
Year 10 Boys 300m - 00:38.90 m
Year 10 Boys Long Jump - 5.42 m
Year 10 Boys High Jump - 1.70 m
Also competing in her last ever RLS Sports Day was Lizzie Peverley- Barber who broke the 1500m Year 10 Girls record with a time of 05:35.96. The Year 10 Towan Boys Relay team saved their best efforts for last breaking the school record with a time of 00:50.59.

Sports Day is a team event and supporters lined up trackside, painted in community colours, to cheer their learning communities on as representatives of Godrevy, Pentire, Rame and Towan competed. The results by year group are listed below and show Towan, who started the day in 4th position, winning each year group! Congratulations to all the students of Towan on your Sports Day success and to every competitor who braved the heat to contribute to their team.
