Could Richard Lander Racing be heading for a second World Champion Greenpower title?

Added 3 years ago

The Richard Lander Racing team has had another fantastic weekend Greenpower racing, this time at Castle Combe in Wiltshire. This is one of the final regional heats of the season before the International Finals are held at The Rockingham Speedway next month, and usually serves as a good warm up event as most of the top teams will compete at this favoured circuit.
The Richard Lander Racing team are becoming a well-oiled machine and quickly setup the pit area where the cars would be prepared and maintained between track times. An early arrival and good organisation meant the team were in the front part of the queue for scrutineering where the cars are checked for safety and that they comply with the Greenpower regulations. This also meant that the full 90 minute practice session could be used to allow our drivers to get their racing lines perfected and the pit crews to practice driver changeovers.
During practice RLR 3 set a fantastic pace, setting the fastest time of the F24 class (11 – 16 year olds), and 3rd fastest of all cars including the F24+ category (16-25 year olds). We were also faster than Jaguar during practice! With a lap time of 3’ 19s in practice we were 10 seconds a lap faster than our nearest rival.
On to Race 1 and RLR 3 driven by Max Buchanan set off from the front of the grid to establish a fantastic lead during the first few laps. RLR 3 was called into the pits for the first driver change and unfortunately had to follow a very slow car down the pit lane which lost most of the lead gap that had been produced. Nevertheless, RLR 3 resumed its blistering pace with Reuben Potts at the controls. The final pit lap was far quicker than the first with a clear run in and excellent team work from the pit crew, allowing Dan Whear to take the car through the second half of the race. Dan set a fastest lap of 3’17s – the fastest of the day, and proceeded to build a very impressive gap to second place of 6’45s by the time the chequered flag fell, beating previous champions Sandbach High school in a comprehensive fashion. It is fair to say RLR 3 dominated the competition by lapping every single competitor, including 2nd place. Race 2 began in a similar fashion, with a another dominant performance from Richard Lander School. The margin over 2nd place was reduced to 3’36s, which still gave us a whole lap advantage over the next 3 cars, and many laps advantage over the entire fleet.
We are now preparing for the International Finals at Rockingham Speedway on the 6th October, where we will be defending our championship title from pole position on the grid, and we’re red hot favourites to win! No pressure!
