Emily Dutson in Year 8 recently travelled to London as part of Armistice commemoration month.
She was invited to Buckingham Palace having won an international poetry competition run by the charity Never Such Innocence which aimed to look at the First World War through poetry, art and music created by children.
As part of the finale to of the competition Emily was invited by Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence to present her winning poem at Buckingham Palace on the 7th November to fellow winners and about 300 guests in the ballroom of the Palace. The celebration in the ballroom was followed by afternoon tea where Emily talked to the guests – a mix of dignitaries including foreign ambassadors, High Ranking Officers Lords, Ladies and celebrities.
Well done Emily for writing such a moving poem and performing it so well. We are delighted to be able to share Emily’s poem with you here.
