The recorder players of Richard Lander School had an amazing week at the County Music Festival this year! On Monday 62 recorder players from all over the county performed together as part of Recorders Rule! (This is a Cornwall Music Service Trust ensemble and any recorder player in Cornwall can join.) The students from Richard Lander led the different sections in this group. The adjudicator was very impressed and had never seen so many recorder players all together. He awarded the group a Distinction for their performance and a shiny new cup!
Monday continued with many successes in the solo recorder classes with Anna Browning securing first place and Anna Hilder second.
On Tuesday the Richard Lander School recorder group performed against many other schools in an instrumental class and then they also took part in the Recorder Ensemble class on Wednesday. They gained a 3rd place in the Ensemble class with the adjudicator commenting on their good communication.
Wednesday evening saw a marathon of recorder duets and trios – we didn’t finish till 10pm! All the students played to the best of their abilities and showed off the versatile repertoire that recorder players have available to them. In the duets Emma Longman and Hannah McKernian got a special mention for their fantastic listening to each other and matching of sound – “a duet pair to watch for the future” said the adjudicator. In the Trio class Gerran Parker, Sofia Gabriele and Maddy Henthorn came 3rd with a ‘driving’ performance of a piece called Green Flag.
Well done all, a fabulous effort! Recorder playing is blossoming in Cornwall - well done for being great ambassadors of the instrument!
