Thirty of the schools best surfers went to represent Richard Lander at the Peninsular Surf Competition on Friday 4th where they dominated most of the events and had a great day.
The surf was challenging in that the competitors needed to use all their skill and wave knowledge to make the most out of what little power there was available in the small waves. Despite this many of the teams managed some big turns in the small waves.
Kai Thomas was the clear winner of the under 16 category coming first in each round and not far behind him Jo Hornbuckle took 3rd place.
In the Under 14 boys surfers Jack Coombes went through to win the final after coming first in all his heats. Jack Burton also did well to get through to the final and came fourth. Sam Russell got through to the semi-finals and Lewis Cooker made it through to the quarter finals.
Dulcie Haver was the proud winner of the under 14 girls category.
It was almost a clean sweep with the body boarding division as well. Anya Gough took first place for Under 16 girls body boarders. The U16 boys also did well with Mat Reed taking First place, Trey Campbell in 3rd and Will McRitchie coming 4th.
Needless to say Richard Lander School were the overall winners and got to keep hold of the trophy for another year.
