Richard Lander held its annual FutureChef competition, for year 10 catering students, on Friday 18th October. The competition was smaller than last year but the standard of food was just as good. Two students took part, Claudia Moore and Amy Rand, both having to produce a hot main course in one hour. The students were both being judged on their workmanship, levels of skill, hygiene, presentation and most importantly flavour.
The atmosphere in room 219, where the competition was held, was relaxed but it was obvious that both the girls were feeling the pressure as they tried to all produce perfect looking and tasting food.
Amy and Claudia both produced excellent dishes. Amy made a fragrant and beautiful tasting Thai green curry with rice. She really packed a lot of flavour into the dish and made the whole thing from scratch. Claudia produced a very professional looking chicken Wellington with fondant potato and seasonal vegetables. Her presentation and flavours were excellent and her dish showed very high levels of skill.
It was a very difficult decision for the judges but in the end Claudia won by a whisker because of the extra levels of skill involved in her dish.
Both girls received prizes for their efforts and now Claudia will go on to represent the school at Cornwall College in the local final.
Good luck Claudia.
