Each new generation always finds it’s own sound track and whilst we might not always understand them, the skills and knowledge that create great music never really change.
DBS or Deep Blue Sound are a post 16 training provider based at Cornwall College but they also have sites in cities like Bristol and Berlin. They pride themselves on providing students with hands on training, on cutting edge equipment and access to the skills and knowledge of industry professionals.
Eleven year 9 students were lucky enough to be invited to their Cornwall College base for a day to get an insight into the music industry and possible career paths they could follow. Moss, a well-respected producer and DJ whose latest album as ‘Daytoner’ has seen regular air play on BBC 6 music, was their guide for the day. The students got to try their hands at DJing, live sound recording and music sequencing; always under the watchful eye of the DBS staff.
“I really enjoyed the DJing, I knew a bit about it but it was great to be taught to do it properly,” said Elijah Boakes
Alfie Griffiths added, “Amazing! So much to do that’s a lot of fun; it’s like learning music in a totally different way.”
So perhaps we’ve already witnessed the launch of the careers of the next big names in music! Thanks again to DBS and let’s see who the first student to see their name in lights will be …
