Last Friday our Year 7 Rugby team participated in the West Cornwall U12 Rugby Festival, held at Richard Lander, with fourteen teams battling it out to see who were the best U12 side in the region. Richard Lander started the competition strongly, dominating their pool and winning all four games without conceding a single try and scoring 117 points along the way! In the quarter finals we met Camborne, beating them comfortably 28-0, before playing Penryn in the semi-finals, running out winners 21-7.
In the final we met Mounts Bay Academy, and after a tense opening few minutes we settled down and began playing the style of open rugby that had got us to the final. We never looked back, winning the game 28-0.
This was the first time in the history of the festival that a school other than Truro School had won the competition. Our players were an absolute credit to Richard Lander and played some outstanding rugby throughout the day, catching the eye of many of the other teachers and supporters from other schools. We now look forward to playing Newquay Tretherras on Wednesday 27th November in the East Cornwall Vs West Cornwall Play-Off Final, to be held at Redruth School.
