By Scarlett Shepherd - Year 9
Last winter, I crewed for my sister in the UK mirror squad, which consisted of 6 weekends training across the country, which then lead onto us going to the World's in Ireland where we placed 33rd out of 92 (second out of the silver fleet). We also placed 9th at the Nationals in Pembrokeshire.
In September I began sailing with another Restronguet sailing club member, Harvey, and won a place in this year's squad; this time as a helm in control of the boat. With two 5ths at the qualifiers, we were selected second for one of the ten squad places available.
The squad involves the same commitment as last year, but this year we are hoping to compete in the National and European Championships at Brixham, and our ultimate goal is to be at the 2015 Worlds which will be held at Theewater Sports Club, South Africa, in January.
Dinghy sailing is not an elite sport and is easy and fun - if anyone would like to try dinghy sailing please get in touch.
