Report by Zak Minett—Year 8
Recently year 8 were treated to a live performance at the gorgeous venue, the Minack Theatre. The theatre itself is situated on a cliff over-looking the sea and looks as if it was built by the Romans. This couldn't be further from the truth. In fact in was designed and built during 1931 and 1983. The impressive architecture came from the mind of Rowena Cade.
The children left by coach during break, so as to arrive in time for a quick lunch before heading down to the theatre. The production that the children went to see was entitled 'The dreams of Sleeping Beauty'. It was a subverted piece of text from the popular fairy tale 'Sleeping Beauty'. The students had been studying subverted fairy tales in class for an assessment, so the play fitted in nicely with their knowledge.
It was about the dreams that Sleeping Beauty had during her one-hundred year sleep. Her dreams included some familiar fairy tale characters, such as Little Red Riding hood and Hansel and Gretel. It was narrated by the 13th fairy, who put Beauty in her one-hundred years sleep after being put in a jealous rage, finding out she was not invited to the babies christening. It also plays out as a love story, between Beauty and the prince, whose kiss eventually wakes her from the one hundred year slumber.
During the interval the students were allowed to buy an ice-cream, before heading back to school by coach.
Everyone had a great day out!
