34 of our best surfers represented Richard Lander School at the Peninsular Surf Competition at Godrevy, on Thursday 25th September, where they dominated most of the events and had a great day out.
Conditions were challenging and the competitors needed to use all their skill and knowledge to make the most out of messy waves. Despite this many put in fantastic performances.
Leon and Marcus Reed from Year 7 proved marvellous new assets to the school, with Leon winning the Year 7-9 Boys Surfing Category and Marcus coming second in the Year 7-11 Mixed Body Boarding, despite competing against much older students. We were also delighted to take 2nd and 3rd place in the Year 7-9 Boys Surfing - well done Sam Russell and Luke Thorpe. These students, along with Tristan Asken have qualified for next year’s Cornwall School Games.
In the combined Year 7 - 11 Girls Surfing, Dulcie Havers from Year 9 came 4th, and in the Year 10 & 11 Boys Surfing, Richard Lander School took all 6 CSG qualifying places, with Jack Coombes winning the title, Noah Biersack coming second, Stanley Flynn third. Noah Stanier-Smith, Joe Hornbuckle and Cameron Lambie took 4th to 6th respectively.
Needless to say Richard Lander School were the overall winners and will hold the trophy for another year. Very well done to all the students who took part in the competition, and made the day so enjoyable.
