Richard Lander held its annual Future Chef competition, for year 10 and 11 catering students, on Tuesday 30th September. The competition was held in room 219 where 3 year 11 students and 1 year 10 student battled it out for the two places on offer at the local final at Truro College on Monday 10th November. All students had to produce a hot main course in one hour. The students were being judged on their workmanship, levels of skill, hygiene, presentation and most importantly flavour.
The atmosphere in room 219 was relaxed but it was obvious that all the chefs wanted to produce perfect looking and tasting food. Jack Brown produced a lovely version of a seafood paella, Mara Crowe cooked a roulade of chicken and sausage with potato rosti and seasonal vegetables, Amy Rand cooked lemon sole, crushed new potatoes and pea puree and Claudia Moore cooked chicken Wellington, fondant potato, seasonal vegetables and a Madeira jus.
All students performed excellently and their dishes were of the highest quality. There can however only be two winners and they were Amy Rand and Mara Crowe. Both girls’ dishes were without fault and both showed lovely inventive cooking. Amy and Mara will go on to represent the school at Truro College in the local final. Good luck guys.
