With less than a month to go until the Lander for Uganda team depart for Kampala, Miss L Myners has provided us with an update on their fundraising work this year, every penny of which goes to help our partner schools and members of the local communities around them.
This year our students have been working extremely hard to raise money for our partner Ugandan school students and their families, raising an amazing £11,646.00 so far, with more still to come in. What an achievement!
This year’s Uganda students (supported by Year 9 future Uganda students) have been really busy with events including Car Boot Sales, a Christmas Fair, the first ever School Sleepover, bag packing in local supermarkets, raffles, tuck shops, Uganda café, non-school uniform days, auctions, The Tenner Relay, ‘Head for a Day’ and babysitting!
We would like to take this opportunity thank all of the shops and supermarkets that have supported us in our fundraising, and also to thank parents for supporting our fund raising events.
We have also been collecting unwanted clothes, shoes and bags for the Bag2School scheme which has proved very successful. We weigh these items and then sell them to this charity by the Kg.
Another important activity which the students have been involved in has been the collection of bras and baby clothes which are desperately needed and we will be taking these with us for distribution to families living in poverty in villages surrounding our partner schools
With only 3 weeks until we leave, the Year 10 Uganda students took part in a team building BBQ and games afternoon earlier this week. The students worked with people outside of their normal friendship groups solving problems, cooking for the team and developing/playing games and classroom activities
Year 9 students will continue to fund raise for next year while we are in Uganda.
