Friday 22nd January saw 230 onesie clad students arriving in school at 7pm equipped with sleeping bags and pillows. The Lander for Uganda 2016 team were hosting a Richard Lander School Sleepover to raise funds for partner schools in Bukomansimbi and Kamuzinda. For a ticket fee of £8 students were invited to spend the evening enjoying a roller disco, Minecraft and gaming rooms, the Health Related Fitness challenge, sports activities or a fun casino. Alternatively they could learn to crochet, chill out, watch films or dance the night away to the tunes of Lander’s Got Talent winner, G.DUB.M Jonah Murdock. By 1am Maths and Humanities classrooms had become dormitories and students were supposed to be getting some sleep before their 8am breakfast call. A great time was had by all and the staff who attended commented that student behaviour, whilst unsurprisingly high spirited, was excellent.
Miss Lisa Myners, who organised the event, said ‘What a fantastic night we all had, the students were so well behaved I would have no hesitation in running this event again. We raised a phenomenal £2000 towards refurbishing, extending and repairing dormitories for our partner school students in Uganda. One night’s fun in Truro will help to relieve poverty in Uganda for many years to come.”
