Congratulations Class of 2016 on fantastic GCSE results!

Added 3 years ago

August 25th saw beaming students and staff celebrating the fruits of their labour – great GCSE results! The class of 2016 broke Richard Lander School records with 74.9% students getting 5 or more GSCE (A*-C) including Mathematics and English. In addition, over 1/3 of all students walked away with at least 3 A/A* grades and 1/6 got 8 or more A/A*! Aside from this there were many personal triumphs where individuals saw focus, hard work and determination provide them with what they needed to follow their future dreams. Congratulations to all of our students and we wish you the very best in your 'life after Lander' adventures!

Top results at Richard Lander went to Eloise who said her results were 'really unexpected.' Achieving ten A* grades and two A grades, Eloise is going on to Truro College to do the International Baccalaureate and planning a future in medicine. Connie achieved A/A*’s across the board in all of her 11 subjects.  Teganalso did brilliantly with ten A/A* grades and two B grades.  Not to be outdone by her friends, Millie also achieved an incredible eleven A/A* grades, and one B grade.
Other students include Jake who achieved ten A Grades, one A* and one B grade said he was grateful to all of his teachers and he felt better now that the wait was over!  Liam who achieved eight A* grades and 3 A grades is going on to do A Levels in Maths, Physics and Economics.  Geraint was ‘over the moon’ with five A* grades, four A grades and two B grades.  Maya said ‘overwhelmed is an understatement.’ She had been up since 5.30am to collect her five A*s, four A grades and a B grade.  She plans to go on to do A Levels in English Language, History, Media and Photography.
Olly was really pleased with his three A* grades, 6 A grades and two B grades – but not half as pleased as his mum!

From 2016, a school’s success is to be measured by Attainment 8 and Progress 8. These measures are designed to encourage schools to offer a broad and balanced curriculum at KS4. Attainment 8 is a students’ average achievement across eight subjects which must include English and Mathematics and at last 3 other English Baccalaureate subjects (Sciences, Computing, Languages and Humanities). For a student, you add up their points for their eight subjects and divide by 10 to get their Attainment 8 score. A school's Attainment 8 score is the average of all students' scores. We are delighted that our Attainment 8 score for 2016 was equivalent to a B- grade and that our Progress 8 score was well above the national average. If you are interested in learning more about these new measures please visit the AQA website or ask a teacher!
