Update from the Music Department

Added 6 months ago

Dear Parents of all Year 7 and Year 8 Musicians,

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first half term at Richard Lander School and wish to continue to develop the Music Programme that is currently thriving at the school. I would like to start a Year 7 and Year 8 Orchestra after Christmas, to complement our advanced instrumental groups. This will run on Tuesday afternoons from 3.30-4.30pm and will need a minimum of 15 students to start the club. Students of any instrument and ability are encouraged to join, including complete beginners. Please discuss this club with your son or daughter and if enough interest is generated then we will begin in January. Repertoire will be wide and varied; from Mozart’s 40th to Bob Marley Orchestral Mash ups!

If your child plays a rock instrument (Voice, Guitar, Piano, Drum kit, Bass) and would like to play in a rock band, please encourage them to come and speak with me. We have been able to create  4 new Rock Bands who will be Performing later in the year, but all students are in Year 8 upwards and it would be great to have a Year 7 band to show them all how to do it properly!

Please email me at sjones@richardlander.cornwall.sch.uk with the following details of your child if they are interested in either project.

Name
Year Group/ Tutor Group
Instrument
Grade/ Years playing
Experience playing in a group (if any)
Availability on Tuesdays (After school for Orchestra) or Wednesday Lunchtimes (Rock Band).

We want to encourage your children to continue to perform group music at this transitional stage in life, so they continue to grow their love of music in their teenage years and beyond.

Yours Musically,
Miss Siân Jones
Head of Music

YEP! Try Out Day – 5th November 2016

Cymaz Music is opening the doors to new members of the Youth Ensemble Project
The Youth Ensemble Project is a creative ensemble based in Cornwall, run by professional musicians. There is always a Youth Worker present at sessions. We aim to help young musicians, including those with little or no composition experience, to compose or re-arrange music as a group and then publicly perform. We also signpost musicians to opportunities, give industry advice and guidance and bring in other professional musicians along the way.
We will be holding a Try Out day on Saturday 5th November at The House in St Austell
We are introducing a Junior YEP! for musicians aged 10 – 14. We will be continuing the Senior YEP! for musicians aged 15-21
If you have attended YEP! before, you still need to attend the Try Out Day to join the YEP! Sessions
You can find out more about the project at www.yepcornwall.org.uk

Kernow West Folk Group

Kernow West Folk Group is an exciting new youth ensemble based in the Camborne / Redruth area with rehearsals taking place at Cornwall College (opposite Heartlands). We play folk music from Cornwall, Ireland, Scotland and further afield.
The group is open to players of any folk instrument (fiddles, violins, mandolins, flutes, whistles, guitars, bass guitars, drums etc) and will play traditional and contemporary arrangements with an emphasis on having good fun while doing so.
Kernow West Folk Group is aimed at young musicians aged 8-18 with some existing experience, the aim to push more advanced players technique while nurturing less experienced players and inspire them to continue their musical career.
If you would be interested in joining the group please email:
