NCS - Fantastic, affordable summer opportunity for Year 11 students.

Added 3 years ago

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We recently attended an assembly at Richard Lander to invite Year 11 students on our summer programme.

How NCS Works

NCS is a part-residential experience focussed around fun and discovery, with 30 hours committed to a local community project. Young people work in diverse teams of twelve to fifteen, building skills for work and life, taking on exciting challenges, making new friends, and contributing to their community. The programme runs outside term time, with young people taking part in the summer holidays. Government funding means you pay no more than £50 to take part. This covers food, transport, activities and accommodation during the programme, bursaries are available for young people unable to meet the cost.

3rd July Depart for Adventure phase at Okehampton Manor House 5 days 4 nights all inclusive, activities include Mountain Boarding, laser tag, ice skating/disco, paddle boarding, kayaking, coasteering, rock climbing, archery, rifle shooting and many more.

10th July Depart for Skills Phase at Falmouth University , activities include building independence (cooking and budgeting for themselves), CV writing, Interview techniques, developing new skills through workshops and inspirational talks, and finding out more about the needs of their local community.

17th July Phases 3-4. Participants are back at home, but continue to work in their teams to give something back to their community by planning and delivering their own 30 hour social action project. This is where the team leaders take a step back and let the young people take charge, building on the skills they have developed in the first two weeks. It is entirely flexible and in the past we have had teams carry out projects ranging from: Voluntary work at Derriford Hospital, Residential Homes, food banks, homeless shelters and many more.

Each participant and their parents are invited to a graduation ceremony at The Eden Project to celebrate their achievements and receive a certificate signed by the Prime Minister. There are also further opportunities available to NCS grads such as becoming involved in the South West Regional Youth Board, as well as becoming an ambassador for NCS.  Date TBC

During the assembly, your son or daughter had an expression of interest form. This form asks for your son or daughter’s relevant contact details, which our Telephone Contact Centre uses to contact you or your child further so we can provide more information and help complete sign up over the phone if they still wish to attend. Alternatively, you are able to apply for a place for your son or daughter via www.NCSYES.co.uk or via 0800 197 8010 or text 83767.
