MUSIC INFORMATION FOR PARENTS – 2025-2026

Practice Rooms

Practice rooms are available at lunch times for students who participate in school Music ECAs or are studying KS4 Music. Students may speak to their music classroom teacher for sign up and more information. Practice rooms are also available to use after school Monday to Thursday from 3-4pm, again students just need to speak to their classroom music teachers to organise this.

Mr Jones Rock Band Club All rockers are welcome to come and form a band, or practice with one they have already set up! This is a club to enhance pre-existing instrumental and vocal skills

Miss Jones & Mrs Munns KS4 Coursework completion time All Year 10 and 11 students who study GCSE or BTEC Music can have 1 to 1 time with their teacher, or have time to complete homework or practice.

All of our school ensembles perform at events such as The Christmas Cathedral Service and The Cornwall Music festival every March.

 

Instrumental Lessons at Richard Lander School

Your child has taken an interesting in learning a new musical instrument! At Richard Lander School lessons are timetabled on a weekly rotation, so students don’t miss the same lessons two weeks running, as lessons are timetabled during the school day. We provide solo and group lessons in the following instruments via the Cornwall Music Service Trust (CMST):

Piano, Drum kit and Vocals

Electric and acoustic guitar and bass and ukulele

Woodwind instruments including recorder, flute, piccolo, saxophone, clarinet and bassoon

String instruments including violin, viola, cello and double bass

Brass instruments including cornet, trumpet, trombone, euphonium and tuba

Minority instruments

The Cornwall Music Hub have changed how they support ‘Minority Instruments’ (Bassoon, Cello, Double Bass, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Oboe, Tuned Orchestral Percussion and Viola) and a bursary scheme is now in place.  There are 80 bursaries available to subsidise the cost of learning one of these instruments. Please note that applications for this must be received by the deadline each Autumn term.
