On Thursday 25th September, we were delighted to welcome Year 5 and 6 pupils, along with their families, to our Open Evening. The event was a fantastic opportunity for our visitors to explore the school, meet staff, and experience the wide range of subjects and activities that make our community so special.
We are incredibly proud that well over 600 Richard Lander School students supported the evening. From acting as tour guides to showcasing their favourite curriculum areas, their enthusiasm and commitment shone through. One example of the effort our students put in was the cast of SIX, who performed three run-throughs, in succession, bringing huge energy and excitement to the Drama corridors! A special mention also to Year 11 Head Student, Sam Cox, and Year 8 student, Ruby Moyle-Ellis who presented speeches alongside our Headteacher to a packed hall of visitors, and to Rory Soutar who played the piano as they entered.
Across the departments, our visitors were able to get hands-on with a huge variety of activities, including:
-
Science experiments, setting methane bubbles alight, flame testing, making 3D projection viewers…
-
Taste challenges to test the senses
-
Crafting and projecting Shakespearean insults
-
A magical Harry Potter quiz
-
Ordering food at the lively Polyglot Café
-
Creative fun with clay and doodles.
-
Designing laser-cut fidget toys
-
Playing chess against our student experts
-
Firing marshmallows at medieval castle
-
Making binary bracelets with Computing staff and students.
-
Participating in a wide range of sports and trying out the HRF room
The evening was a real celebration of learning, creativity, and community spirit. It gave us the perfect chance to host the students of the future and showcase everything Richard Lander has to offer.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who visited, as well as to the staff and students who gave their time and energy to make the evening such a success.
